Men Shot In Head, Set On Fire Found Alive In Roseville

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — Two men are in the hospital after being shot in the head and set on fire in Roseville.

Across from a halfway house and in front of a day care, neighbors woke up to a horrific scene: two men shot and being burned alive. Neighbors say they don't understand why the attacker chose their neighborhood.

Kevin Shcmicking had to walk up Annabelle Avenue to find out what happened.

"We went to bed and not only forgot to lock the front door but close the door completely. I woke up and my wife said, 'Good thing we live in a really safe neighborhood.'" he said.

But on Thursday night, the neighborhood was chosen by someone to commit an act of terror. Sheriff's detectives say two men were shot in the head and then lit on fire.

The shooting happened after 11:20 p.m., detectives say. The victims are men in their late 20s or early 30s from Sacramento.

"At this point, we have no idea what they were doing here late at night," said sheriff's spokeswoman Dena Erwin.

The owner of a home daycare saw flames and called 911. He tried to save the men with his garden hose.

Neighbors don't know why such a heinous act happened in their neighborhood.

"This is extremely unusual for this neighborhood. I've lived here for over 30 years and we never had anything like this," Shcmicking said.

Tonight, he says he'll be sure to lock his door.
