Top 3 Intriguing Kings In Las Vegas Summer League
With the Las Vegas Summer league in full force and the bracket play beginning today, the Kings have several young prospects fighting for a roster spot before training camp.
With only three games completed and a fourth being played as I type this, here are three guys who have had stand-out performances thus far:
3. Willie Cauley-Stein
The Kings newest fan favorite was drafted sixth overall a month ago and he is already filling up the stat sheets. He has started all four games and has put up tremendous numbers. In about 20 minutes per game, Cauley-Stein has put up 13 points, 4.7 rebounds, a steal and nearly three blocks. Despite playing against low-level talent, he has looked the most ready for the NBA. It's still hard to believe he is a 7-foot center. I've watched him routinely dribble the ball down the court himself, nimble as a point guard. He hustles on broken plays and has a knack for blocking a lot of shots. Clearly a good sign for Kings fans (I'm sure DeMarcus Cousins is happy to see him like this too).
2. David Stockton
The son of the NBA's all-time assist leader, Stockton has some big shoes to fill. After joining the roster late last season from the D-league, Stockton has been a solid starter in Vegas this summer. The Kings are weak in the point guard depth, and Stockton will most likely be on the bench this year. Averaging 7 points, 4.5 assists in only 17.5 minutes per game thus far, he may see those numbers increase as chemistry increases with the newly formed team. Too bad there isn't a Malone on the Kings.
3. Eric Moreland
Moreland, 23, played in the D-league last year and has taken advantage of his opportunity to play in Vegas this summer with the Kings. In four games, he has averaged 6 points, 7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.3 blocks. The 6-foot-10 power forward out of Oregon State has been getting some of the best exposure minute-wise thus far, so keep an eye on him when the Kings training camp roster is released. He kind of does it all for a big man and although he plays in a crowded position depth-wise, he could sneak onto the roster later this summer.
