Police: Suspected Robber Injures Two With Sword In Stockton

STOCKTON (CBS13) – A Stockton man is suspected of attacking two men with a sword, police say.

The incident happened near El Dorado and Jefferson Streets early Sunday morning.

Officers say 36-year-old Lymon Melton attacked a man who was walking home in the area. Melton allegedly pulled out a large, samurai sword-looking knife and demanded the other man to hand over his property.

Melton is suspected of striking the other man when he wouldn't comply.

A 26-year-old man in the area jumped in to try and help the victim and was himself cut on the hand.  The first victim, identified as a 38-year-old man, fought back with his belt.

Melton soon took off, but officers caught him just a short distance away. He has since been arrested and is facing attempted robbery and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon charges.

The 38-year-old victim suffered a large laceration to his head that went down to his skull. He is said to be in stable condition at a local hospital.
