Mold Found In Stockton Classrooms, But School Is Still In Session

STOCKTON (CBS13) — Airborne mold spores were found in classrooms at a Stockton elementary school, but school is back in session.

The mold isn't completely out of the classrooms at Julia Morgan Elementary School, but administrators say two rooms are being worked on and the rest of the school will also be tested.

Earlier this month and before classes started, teachers found the airborne mold spores in rooms A1 and B1. Neither are in use.

Parents like Cheryl Jiannelli say they were notified on Monday about the mold and don't know how dangerous it is to their children.

"I want to know what kind of mold is in the school, specifically what type," she said.

Principal Mike Coughlin says he was told it's a black mold that can cause health problems. The school district did not return calls or emails about our request for information, but says an environmental specialist will be on-hand at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday to address parents specific concerns.

Coughlin says A1 is being torn apart to get rid of all traces of mold, while work on B1 will begin next week.
