Natomas Mom Solves Missing Package Mystery

NATOMAS (CBS13) — A local mom cracked the mystery of who has been ripping off packages from homes in her neighborhood.

She's a Natomas mom turned private eye, who caught not adults, but two teenage girls on an apparent after-school crime spree.

She snapped photos of the pair with boxes allegedly ripped off neighbors doorsteps.

Krista Hernandez believes the pair has been targeting the neighborhood for weeks.

"It wasn't stealing a 69-cent candy bar—which is not right either—I believe these girls got away with thousands of thousands of items," she said.

Stopping the alleged kid criminals became a passion for this mom, because of her son's medical condition.

"Angel is wearing an insulin pump," she said.

Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes--his medical supplies are delivered to the house by mail.

"It angered me, because if anything ever happened to my sons medication, that's something I can't replace, and that thought went through my head," she said.

Hernandez turned the photos over to staff at Natomas Middle School who determined the teen girls are students here. They issued a statement reading in part:

"In this case, thanks to a citizen's quick action, the school was able to take quick action itself, and appropriate disciplinary measures were imposed."
