Warrant Out For Dixon Tow Truck Driver's Alleged Killer

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A Dixon tow truck driver was hit and left for dead seven months ago, and now a warrant is finally out for his killer.

It's hard for Jaime Bower to even talk about the loss of her husband, Mike. The 29-year-old tow truck driver was struck and killed in a hit and run back in February as he worked on Highway 50.

"We have two little girls, and the oldest one, she thinks daddy is going to come back. We don't know how to explain that to her that he's never going to come back," said Bower.

During the past seven months the Bowers have been wondering if they would ever see justice -- if the driver will ever be caught. Today was a step in the right direction.

"I'm just glad that he was found," said Bower.

California Highway Patrol worked hard to track down a suspect. Today the Yolo County District Attorney's office said they filed a felony charge of hit and run causing death against Ronald Freeman Demello. A warrant was issued for Demello's arrest.

Demello is a commercial truck driver who lives in the Stockton area.

"It's been haunting me ever since; every day I think about it; every day," said Octavio Portugal, Mike's boss.

Portugal was with Mike just moments before he was killed. He says while CHP investigators have not disclosed how they caught up to the suspect, he hopes this case is a reminder.

"I'm hoping that after this arrest that people can take it more serious and see that there are consequences for not moving over," said Portugal.

Jaime can now breathe a sigh of relief.

"I don't know how anybody could do something like that," said Portugal.

It's unclear when Demello will be taken into custody.
