Spencer Stone Upgraded From Serious To Fair Condition After Stabbing

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Hospital officials say France train hero Spencer Stone is recovering well after being stabbed in Midtown Sacramento early Thursday morning.

The UC Davis Medical Center says Stone's condition has been upgraded from "serious" to "fair." Stone is now awake, able to get out of bed and is said to be in good spirits.

Stone was injured while reportedly trying to break up a fight and was stabbed multiple times.

The liquor store employee Eric Cain saw the whole fight go down. In an interview with CBS13 on Thursday, Cain said it appears the fight started over a girl and Stone was stabbed trying to defend her.

"Kinda arguing, kinda hem-haw fighting, pushing and stuff. We didn't think they were gonna fight and that's when I started walking back to the store, and that's when I heard a (punching sound) and I turned back around," Cain said.

Cain said the man hit by the woman with a bag punched her in the face. Stone got in the middle of it.

Also on Friday, the Midtown Business Association announced a community fundraising drive to try and help police with the investigation into the fight that left stone injured. The MBA says donations up to $3,500 will be matched by the group.
