Burst Pipe At Treasurer's Office Creates Second Big State-Owned Mess In 3 Months

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — For the second time since August, a burst pipe at a state-owned building is causing a big mess and a costly cleanup.

They didn't want reporters inside the Treasurer's building to see the mess, calling the California Highway Patrol to escort CBS13 cameras out, saying the public building wasn't public at that time.

But from the outside it was clear to see cartful after cartful of water pushed by employees dumped outside the building.

A spokesperson for the Department of General Services says the water is from a burst pipe on the fourth floor and that it's too soon to tell how much damage it caused.

The burst pipe is the second in three months, when a blown pipe ruined both a legislator and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom's offices.
