Roseville Offering Unlimited Recycled Wastewater During Drought

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — Roseville is offering recycled wastewater to residents for outdoor watering as part of a new program.

The city had to cut back on watering greatly because of the drought, but now it has a cheap option for residents to keep their lawns green.

Roseville resident Ariak Garibian has wondered something for years.

"You would think about why the hell you would water your lawn with drinking water? it's just a waste of water," he said.

He has a small lawn that he's tried to keep green during the drought.

"If I had a source, somewhere that we were able to water if with recycled water, definitely that would be perfect choice," he said.

Now he does, under a program through the city.

"Recycled water is highly treated wastewater," said Todd Jordan with the city. "We collect all the wastewater around Roseville at both of our plants, we treat it disinfected it."

The treated toilet water is kept in purple pipes. For $20 a year, residents can take up to 300 gallons of water per visit as many times as they want.

The water can only be for outdoor use and is definitely not for drinking or bathing.
