Mom Hopes El Camino High Student's Death Won't Be Forgotten In Legal System

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A grieving mother is pleading for justice after her daughter was killed in an April car crash, and is pushing to make sure her daughter is not just another statistic.

It's hard for Jamie Davis to hold back tears.

"Treasure your loved ones because you never know. You never know when the next time you're going to talk to them is," she said.

She still grieves for her teenage daughter Haylie Jordan.

"We were driving back from Galt that day and I never would have dreamed she been gone in a breath," she said.

Jordan, 15, was killed on April 19 in a horrific chain reaction crash. The aspiring freshman on El Camino High's dance team was riding in the back seat when officers say a pickup slammed into the back of their car on the Capital City Freeway.

Officers say the truck driver, 60-year-old Patrick Montgomery, was going too fast. Jordan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accused driver faces vehicular manslaughter charges with gross negligence.

Davis was in the courtroom holding Jordan's picture.

"She was a big part of my world that's missing," she said.

She wants her little girl remembered as a beautiful young lady, and not just another court case number.

Montgomery is expected to make his first court appearance on Jan. 4.
