Investigators: Baby Shaken To Death In Fairfield, Babysitter Arrested

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) - Authorities have arrested a babysitter after an investigation into the death of a 18-month-old baby boy.

Fairfield Police Department detectives and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations have been looking into the incident since last week. The baby was taken to the hospital at Travis Air Force Base on Dec. 17 after it was having difficulty breathing.

Doctors had to put the baby on a ventilator. The baby was later taken to the UC Davis Medical Center, but died on Dec. 18.

At first, authorities did not note any external signs of trauma to the baby. However, an autopsy later revealed that the baby suffered a severe internal brain injury.

Investigators believe the baby's regular babysitter, 24-year-old Gina Nicole Bailey, violently shook the baby and dropped him on the floor. Bailey was arrested on Tuesday and is facing a charge of assault on a baby causing death.

Bailey is a civilian living at Travis Air Force Base. She is being held at Solano County Jail on $750,000 bail.
