Suspect With Gun Shot After Chases In Loomis

LOOMIS (CBS13) — A suspect was shot after he led deputies on a chase on Monday morning.

Placer County Sheriff's deputies say the incident started in a parking lot near a Raley's when people reported a man holding a gun.

When they got to the scene, deputies say Rodney J. Hance, 49, of Fresno was still there. They say Hance saw a deputy approach, then took off in a truck to a strip mall across the street.

"One of our deputies followed his vehicle," said Lt. Troy Sander.

The suspect then allegedly jumped out of the truck and confronted the officer.

"At some point, in time the suspect pulled a handgun from his waistband and brandished at the officer. The officer returned fire," he said.

Deputies were unsure at the time if they hit Hance before he took off running again, into a parking lot that happened to be a sheriff's department substation. More officers came out of the building.

"And [Hance] was engaged by two of our deputy sheriffs," Sander said.

Multiple shots were fired by deputies striking Hance. No deputies were hurt.

A CBS13 viewer who didn't want to give her full name shot video of the scene.

"We saw all the blood from his head," she said. "We just got off the freeway and we heard the officer saying put it down and that's what caught our attention."

Hance is in serious condition at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
