Elk Grove Police Officer Shoots Suspect After Chase

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - An Elk Grove police officer is said to be OK after being hit by a car driven by a suspect Tuesday morning in Sacramento.

The incident happened while the officer was on-duty in a residential area along Peak and Sandstone Sea ways, according to a statement from Elk Grove Police.

The chase started after the suspect allegedly stole a vehicle in the Elk Grove area, and the son of the victim saw the suspect driving away, got into his vehicle, and chased him. A motorcycle officer also joined in the chase as it continued into Sacramento and came to an end on a dead-end residential street.

With nowhere to go, the suspect reportedly backed up toward the officer, ramming his motorcycle and knocking him off. The officer pulled out his gun and shot at the suspect, hitting him an unknown number of times, according to Elk Grove Police Department spokesperson Chris Trim.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Sacramento County Sheriff's investigators are handling the investigation.
