Quiet Lodi Community Shaken By Death Of 74-Year-Old Woman

LODI (CBS13) – Neighbors here in a quiet community of Lodi shaken by the death of one of their own. Lodi police don't know exactly what happened but they are investigating the death as a homicide.

"She was just a normal older lady," neighbor Mark Schnabel said.

Neighbors wake up Saturday morning to find their street taped off and lined with police cars.

"We have a very quiet neighborhood and very peaceful neighborhood.  Especially Saturday morning is extremely quiet and peaceful," neighbor Nancy O'Brien said.

O'Brien was saddened to hear that her 74-year-old neighbor Dorothy Wiederrich had died.

"And it was just total shock," O'Brien said.

Lodi Police say they got the call at 7:20 a.m. Saturday.

"Apparently she was found early this morning by a family member," Officer Hettie Stillman said.

Midge Raverty lives next door and says her neighbor often kept to herself.

"Every day I think she and her son went walking. They haven't lived in this neighborhood that long, maybe a little over a year, so we don't know her that well," Raverty said.

Crime scene investigators spent most of the day in and out of the house gathering evidence.

They believe she was in the house alone but are unclear about how the victim died or what happened inside that home.

Police say it'll take some time before an autopsy report is released.

"I can't think of any happy resolution to it. But I just hope they find out what happened," O'Brien said.

Police still have very few details surrounding this death. If you have any information, you're asked to call Lodi Police Department.
