CHP: Passenger Killed In Rollover Crash In Yuba County; Driver Suspected Of DUI

YUBA COUNTY (CBS13) - Authorities say a pickup truck that crashed in rural Yuba County, killing a passenger, was being driven by an intoxicated man.

The incident happened Saturday evening on Highway 49, just past the middle fork of the Yuba River.

California Highway Patrol says 28-year-old Pike resident Patrick Elliott rolled his pickup after hitting a curve in the road, sending the vehicle 300 feet over a steep embankment. Elliott and another passenger got away with only minor injuries, but a third passenger suffered severe injuries.

A passerby was flagged down and medics also soon got to the scene. However, the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers discovered that Elliott was driving on a suspended license, as well as being intoxicated. He was arrested and is facing charges of felony DUI and second-degree murder.

CHP has not released the identity of the passenger killed at the scene.
