Former Firefighter Who Admitted Setting California Fires Out Of Boredom Gets 5 Years
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A former seasonal Cal Fire firefighter was sentenced after admitting setting dozens of wildland fires out of boredom and to impress his peers as part of a plea deal on Tuesday.
Benjamin Cunha, 33, of Placerville was sentenced to five years on prison on arson charges after admitting to setting at least 30 wildland fires in 2006 and 2007.
In his confession, Cunha said he set the fires out of boredom as well as to earn overtime pay and impress his peers. He also said he used what's described as a time-delay incendiary device to start the fires.
