Grass Valley Family Says Dip Sent Daughter To Emergency Room

GRASS VALLEY (CBS13) — A Grass Valley family is blaming chips and dip for a recent trip to the emergency room, saying their daughter was treated for a chemical burn in her mouth.

Before the NFL's Pro Bowl started on TV in January, Richard Rodriguez and his family bought chips and dip at a local Safeway store.

"We were sitting here watching television and Tori said 'Oh my God, I just bit into something in the dip and it's burning my tongue," he said.

Tori Pearson says the pain in her mouth immediately.

"You know, like how you stub your toe and it burns and then it starts puffing? That's what it kind of felt like," she said.

She says she found two hard pieces in the Frito-Lay French Onion Dip.

"We were all freaked out, because she started getting almost like little abrasions on her tongue, like bubbles," Rodriguez said.

She was treated at the emergency room for what looks like a chemical burn.

Managers at the Safeway say after the family complained, they pulled the products off the shelves, and they've since been replaced.

The Food and Drug Administration recommends immediately reporting any problems with food products it regulates, including your information, where you received medical treatment and information about the product. That includes what's listed on the label and when it was purchased. You should also contact the manufacturer.

Frito-Lay wrote to the family, asking them to send the jars of dip back to the company.
