Another North Sacramento Shooting Has Police Frustrated

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A busy Interstate 80 overpass was closed while Sacramento Police investigated a shooting that left a man in critical condition.

The shooting happened just after 4 p.m. on Norwood Avenue near the Interstate 80 ramp.

The big challenge in the investigation is tracking down witnesses and surveillance video.

"In the middle of the day!" said Jill VanWinkle, who works nearby. "Don't know what to expect anymore."

It was just after 4 p.m. when Sacramento Police say someone opened fire on a sedan traveling southbound on Norwood Avenue.

"It was really odd," said Rebecca Davies, who works nearby. "I feel like it was more road rage related because it was right on the overpass which is not common."

The man behind the wheel was the only person in the car and was struck by a bullet, said Sacramento Police spokeswoman Traci Trapani.

"After the gunshots were fired, the victim's vehicle coasted into oncoming traffic and struck a pickup truck that was traveling northbound on Norwood Avenue," she said.

The truck driver was not hurt.

Police say they're frustrated over the recurring crime in the North Sacramento neighborhood. Less than a mile away, Grant Union High School football player J.J. Clavo was fatally shot just three and a half months ago. Another homicide happened just three days ago.

"With any dramatic event such as a shooting, we will look at any business or any possibility of cameras in the area," she said. Unfortunately, in this intersection, we do not have an POD devices."
