Grass Valley Murder Suspect Arrested After Chase Spanning 3 Counties

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A wild police chase through three counties lead to a murder suspect surrendering on Interstate 80 in Sacramento overnight.

It started in Grass Valley, where Nevada County Sheriff's deputies were investigating a homicide at a home on the 10000 block of Banner View Drive. A dead body was found inside the home and deputies determined that the person was murdered.

"Obviously this doesn't happen around here usually," said neighbor Jim Deirberger. "We have a retired senior volunteer of the police department living across the street [and] another neighbor who is a former peace officer."

A suspect was soon identified and a deputy on patrol spotted the suspect's car, sparking a pursuit that spanned three counties.

Tack strips deflated all four tires, but it took a while for the suspect to stop.

"I think it was the fact that his car [was] basically down to the rims," said Tony Turnbull from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

The ordeal ended at Longview and I-80 just before 1:30 a.m.

Authorities say the suspect, 35-year-old Jason Carl Schuller, surrendered and was arrested. He was booked into Nevada County Jail and is facing charges of murder and recklessly evading arrest.

Nevada County Sheriff's investigators expect to be at the home through most of the day and possibly into the evening.
