No Charges To Be Filed In Case Of Yuba County Boy Mauled To Death By Dogs
LINDA (CBS13) – Prosecutors have decided to not file charges against a Yuba County woman whose half-brother was mauled to death by dogs while in her care.
The Yuba County District Attorney's Office made the announcement on Friday, along with their reasons.
Nine-year-old Tyler Trammel-Huston was mauled to death by pit bulls on Jan. 4 while inside 24-year-old Alexandria Griffin-Heady's – his half-sister – trailer in Linda. Authorities said Griffin-Heady left the boy alone in the trailer with the three dogs.
When Griffin-Heady got home from work, she discovered that the boy had been fatally mauled.
Prosecutors say they did not have enough evidence to prove Griffin-Heady was criminally negligent. They noted that their investigation into whether the dogs had shown previous violent tendencies was inconclusive.
Further, prosecutors noted that despite public opinion against pit bulls, they cited a previous court case that determined it would it's hard to argue that all pit bulls are dangerous.
At Friday's press conference addressing the case, Griffin-Heady said she has been tormented by her brother's death and ever since it happened she feels scrutinized by the public. She says she wants to put this incident to rest so she and her family can mourn and remember Tyler.
