Elk Grove Parents Upset Over Way School Handled Bomb Threat

ELK GROVE (CBS13) – Parents in Elk Grove are upset over the way school officials handled a bomb threat.

The threat appeared on social media against Monterey Trail High School on Monday morning.

Some parents say they learned about the threat through a letter sent later that afternoon. One parent who contacted CBS13 made the point that they would like to know immediately if their child is in any sort of possible danger.

In the letter obtained by CBS13, the school says:

"Today at 10:13 a.m., students at Monterey Trail High School reported to school officials that a bomb threat had been posted on social media. School officials immediately notified law enforcement and while there was no evidence to suggest the threat was credible, authorities nonetheless took the threat very seriously."

It also reads: "certain buildings identified in the threat were evacuated as a precaution and their premises were searched by law enforcement personnel."

There was no lockdown, which requires the district to notify parents immediately.

District officials say the students were never in danger and they followed protocol by evacuating and searching the affected area.
