UPDATE: Man In Suspicious Vehicle At California State Capitol In Custody

4 p.m. UPDATE: The man who was in the vehicle has surrendered to police.

The man had been in the vehicle for roughly two hours before peacefully surrendering to police negotiators at 11th and L streets.

Sacrament Police Officer Matthew McPhail says the streets will remain closed for an indefinite amount of time while police search the vehicle.

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Authorities are trying to contact a driver who is blocking a street right next to the California State Capitol building with a car.

The scene is near 11th and L Streets.

Officers are currently trying to make contact with the driver. Sacramento police say he is barricaded in the car. A SWAT team and negotiators are responding to the scene.

L Street is closed from 11th to 15th streets.

Tweets from people at the scene show the car is right in the middle of the street.

Police are asking people to leave the sidewalk on L Street.

Businesses between 10th and 12th on L are being evacuated, police say.

Capitol police say the building is not on lockdown at this time. The northside doors of the Capitol are locked and the north driveway is closed, but the rest of the building remains open.
