4/20 Revelers Leave Behind Tons Of Trash At SF Park

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- An estimated 15,000 pounds of trash were left behind after a 4/20 event in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.

KNTV reports Thursday that San Francisco Recreation and Park Director of Operations Dennis Kearn says the unsanctioned event has no permit and no event organizer, leaving city crews to clean up the mess, at the taxpayer expense.

More than 8,000 people flocked to Golden Gate Park on Wednesday, or 4/20, as San Francisco's weed-loving community call it. Countless bottles of soda and beer cans, food boxes and of course, and lots and lots of butts were left scattered on the grassy lawn.

The event could have been the last unofficial pot holiday because a marijuana legalization initiative is expected on the November ballot. The drug's use for medical purposes was approved in 1996.
