East Sacramento Family Worried After Fourth Car Speeds Into Yard

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — An East Sacramento family says they don't feel safe at home following a series of crashes with cars plowing through their home's fence into their yard.

The family lives along a section of Elvas Avenue where they say cars routinely speed down their street.

The same scary memory of a car crashing through their home's fence comes from 7-year-old Morgan and 4-year-old Mia.

"We definitely feel much more vulnerable, exposed," said mom Rachel Matuskey.

They're convinced another crash is coming, because this wasn't the first time. It was the fourth.

From the sidewalk outside the family home. the tire tracks from the last crash can still be seen, cutting across the driveway, showing the path the car took, through their fence.

Photos show the aftermath of the crash, the driver taking off. He was eventually arrested for DUI.

The family has owned the home during the past two crashes into the yard. Now they've started a neighborhood movement called Curb the Curve. The intersection outside their home is where cars routinely speed, not always ending up there they intended.

They are urging the City of Sacramento to slow traffic outside their home with a roundabout or a median to block incoming traffic from plowing into their home again.

The public works department has started a traffic analysis that will determine what changes make sense.
