The protest began at 6 p.m.; those involved say their message is clear: they're standing up against the hate speech.
"It doesn't represent the god I know and it doesn't reflect Sacramento. We are not gonna allow this bigotry and hate here," said protester Kaylynn Parkinson.
The controversy started when a video clip of Pastor Roger Jiminez's Sunday sermon hit YouTube. It quickly went viral as he spoke about how the people killed in Orlando deserved to die because of their sexual orientation.
We spoke to Jiminez, who says he's standing by his words that have sparked outrage across the United States. He says he wasn't trying to incite violence.
