Police Investigate Threats Against Middle School After Teacher Takes Part In State Capitol Protest

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Berkeley police are investigating threats made against a middle school after one of its teachers took part in a weekend protest in Sacramento against a white nationalist group that turned violent.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Tuesday someone sent an email to the principal at Berkeley's Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School threatening to harm students if teacher Yvette Felarca is not fired.

Felarca, a member of the activist group By Any Means Necessary, attended Sunday's protest against white supremacists gathering outside the California state Capitol building and gave television interviews after the clash that left 10 people injured.

The school year ended June 17 but two summer camps at the school have been moved to other locations as a precaution.

Berkeley Police Sgt. Andrew Frankel tells KTVU-TV an officer has been assigned to the campus and that there are extra patrols around the school since people still use the tennis courts and swimming pool.
