4 Dogs Rescued From Sinking Vehicle In Solano County

SOLANO COUNTY (CBS13) - Officers worked together quickly Thursday night to rescue four dogs from a vehicle that had crashed into the water in Solano County and began to sink.

The crash happened off Highway 37 near Skaggs Island in Vallejo. Following the crash, the pets' owners were taken to the hospital, leaving the furry four behind, trapped in the vehicle, according to a statement from the Solano County Sheriff's Department.

Realizing he didn't have waders, animal control officer Mark Garcia changed from his uniform into a pair of shorts and waded in.  Initially, he tried crawling across a ladder to reach the vehicle, but eventually jumped into the water and rescued all four of the animals. They were taken to an animal shelter while their owners recover from their injuries.

Vallejo police and CHP officers assisted Garcia in the rescue.
