Support Grows For Law Enforcement After Dallas Police Shootings

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Several local law enforcement agencies say their response to the deadly police shootings in Dallas has been cautious as people spread their support for law enforcement.

Departments aren't ordering two-man units for now.

April West wanted the Folsom Police Department to know she cares, delivering a bouquet of flowers on her break from work.

"They're protecting our safety," she said. "Our friends our families and we just want them to know that we really appreciate everything they do for us."

A shy little man in uniform took cookies to police after asking his grandfather what he could do to help.

From support to the harsh reality of getting officers prepared, police agencies across the country are on high alert.

"Our hearts do go out to the police officers in Dallas and Rocklin PD is monitoring the situation in Dallas as well as across the nation," said Rocklin Police Cpl. Neil Costa.

Police are upping patrols over the weekend, while Sacramento Police and Sheriff's departments say they continue to operate under normal staffing levels.

Former Sacramento County Sheriff John McGinness says police agencies may be reluctant to increase staff to avoid sending the wrong message in the community.

"If there's an overt presence that creates a scenario vastly different from the norm, it could possibly send a message to the community that we don't trust you, and so these are the delicate issues that have to be addressed," he said.

It's a delicate balance between protection and preparedness.
