2 Adults, 3 Kids Injured In Head-On Folsom Crash

FOLSOM (CBS13) - Two children are recovering from serious injuries following a head-on crash in Folsom. The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Friday, injuring five people.

Two children were flown to the hospital with serious injuries, and three others were sent by ambulance following the crash.

"This street becomes a raceway," said Abhi Gorhe, who leaves nearby.

Neighbors say they aren't surprised a serious accident happened on this straight stretch of road. They say speeding is a constant problem.

"People rip here. Almost everybody goes 65-70 miles an hour, and I see motorcycles go down faster. It's just really unsafe," said Vinshu Raghav, who also lives nearby.

Police say it appears a Chevy was driving southbound when the driver lost control, crossed over the center divider, crashed through a tree and collided with a car going in the northbound direction. Inside the Chevy was a woman and three children. One adult was in the Kia. All had serious injuries and were taken to the hospital.

"The airbag deployment tells you that it's a very significant crash. Airbags are certainly helpful, but seatbelts are critical. Whether it's a high-speed collision like this one, or lower speed collision, it's important to wear your seatbelt to maximize your safety," said Sgt. Andrew Bates with the Folsom Police Department.

Some who live in this neighborhood would like to see a stoplight or at least more enforcement.

"In the last year or so, I have not seen anybody being caught or any cops here around the time people are coming back from work," said Gorhe.

It's unclear if speed was a factor and investigators are still trying to determine how this ever happened.

"It's sad nevertheless, this should've never happened," she said.

The condition of the injured passengers is unknown.
