Crews Put Out 2 Fires Behind Auburn Shopping Center

AUBURN (CBS13) – Crews say a fire behind an Auburn Staples store could have been a lot worse.

The scene is just off of Highway 49. Firefighters responded to the scene just after 3:30 a.m. Friday and found two fires in an alleyway between a shopping center and homes.

One of the fires burned wires and a meter box, while the other fire was in a dumpster.

Firefighters say tall trees and the closeness of homes could have made the fires a whole lot worse.

Smoke got inside of the Staple store, but the damage was limited to outside.

Investigators say the fires "obviously" didn't start by themselves.
