Man Accused Of Starting 6 Fires Along Freeport Boulevard Talks To CBS13
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Police arrested a man suspected of starting a handful of fires just before midnight on Friday, and they're looking into whether he's responsible for more. CBS13 spoke to the man from behind bars Monday.
Investigators say 49-year-old James Miller is in the Sacramento County Jail facing arson charges. He was arrested over the weekend after witnesses say they saw him running from the scene. We were granted a jailhouse interview with Miller, who quickly became irate.
Six fires were started along Freeport Boulevard. When we pressed James Miller about it, the interview went from unusual to bizarre.
"I have not been convicted of starting the fires," he said in response to whether he's the one who started the fires.
Arson investigators say Miller is responsible for sparking the fires in South Sacramento over the weekend. The fires didn't damage any structures, but could have, since flames came close to some homes. Miller was caught after witnesses allegedly saw him running from the scene.
Miller: Put it on my brother. That's the one that did the fires.
Jones: You're saying your brother did?
Miller: Yes!
Jones: But why did they arrest you? Why would they say you started fires? Why would they say that?
Miller: Why would you want me to go to another subject? (Slams phones) Why would you want me to go to another subject?"
Fire investigators say numerous fires have been sparked recently in South Sacramento. They're checking to see if Miller is responsible for those incidents as well.
