Mosquito Spraying Planned In Yolo County After West Nile Infections

WOODLAND (CBS13) – Planes will spray for mosquitoes over Yolo County to try to stop the spread of West Nile Virus.

This comes after health officials confirmed that two people tested positive for the virus in the area. There's been increased West Nile activity among birds in the past month in Yolo County, officials said.

Health experts say mosquitoes become infected after feeding on those birds, and can then pass the disease onto humans.

West Nile is not contagious through casual contact between people, but infected mosquitoes can spread the disease among a community.

The local vector control district will start spraying over Woodland tonight.

Arial spraying is scheduled start at 8 p.m. and last until midnight. Spraying is also planned for Wednesday.
