Elderly Popsicle Vendor Can Take A Break After Fundraiser Nets $165,000

CHICAGO (CBS13) — A popsicle vendor will be able to take some time to himself after a GoFundMe campaign raised more than $165,000 to help him out.

CBS Chicago's Sandra Torres reports Fidencio Sanchez, 89, will be the recipient of a crowdfunding windfall after someone saw him pushing his popsicle cart.

In a matter of days, random strangers donated more than $135,000. The original fundraising goal was $3,000. It's now over $165,000.

His granddaughter, Dulce Perez, was happy the help came when he needed it the most. Sanchez lost his one and only daughter—Perez's mother—in late July. She was his main means of support.

"God sent it at the time we needed it the most," his Perez, said.
