Baby Justice's Mother, Samantha Green, Found Guilty Of Murder

WOODLAND (CBS13) - A Woodland mother has been found guilty of murder in the death of her baby last year.

Samantha Green was arrested in February 2015 after her baby son Justice was found dead in a slough near Knights Landing.

The courtroom was packed as the verdict was announced in the trial of Samantha Green: Guilty in the death of baby Justice.

Green looked shocked and began to weep as jurors were individually polled. At one point she looked behind her to family members in the courtroom.

The prosecution said Green was high on methamphetamine when she took her baby to a slough near Knights Landing to look for the baby's father Frank Rees. The prosecution said during the trial that Green took her baby into the freezing water on a cold night in 2015. She ended up passing out, later waking up to find the baby dead beside her. She initially told authorities she'd been kidnapped.

Following the verdict, Green's father Randy Green said his daughter didn't mean to kill his grandson and should have only been convicted of involuntary manslaughter. He placed most of the blame on the baby's father, Frank Rees.

Randy Green told a crowd of media outside the courthouse, "We all know it was Frank Rees, he's a loser. He's just as responsible, he should've been protecting the baby and as a man, he should've been protecting my daughter."

Rees has not been charged in the connection with the baby's death. A juror told CBS13 the jury tried hard not to talk about Rees because he wasn't on trial.

Samantha Green will be back in court Nov. 1 for sentencing.
