Police: Drunk Mom Ran Over Son's Leg In Supermarket Parking Lot

GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) - Glendale police arrested a woman on suspicion of running over her 7-year-old son with her car in a supermarket parking lot while under the influence of alcohol.

Sgt. Robert William says the car rolled over the boy's thigh and he was bruised but mostly uninjured.

William says 46-year-old Sharla Joseph was arguing with her two sons Saturday when she got into the car alone after threatening to leave them behind.

William says the boys clung to the door handles as Joseph drove off. The 7-year-old fell to the ground and the car rolled over his leg.

William says responding officers smelled alcohol on Joseph's breath and she failed a field sobriety test.

City News Service reported Wednesday that Joseph could face charges including child abuse and drunken driving. It wasn't immediately known if she has an attorney.
