Source: Security Footage Reveals Little From Matt Barnes Nightclub Incident

- Carmichael Dave

KHTK has received some new information regarding the Avenue nightclub incident involving Matt Barnes and DeMarcus Cousins early Monday morning.

According to sources close to the investigation, the NYPD has the Avenue security videos from that evening, but are not able to glean any pertinent information from them because of low lighting.

Witnesses that were present at the time of the investigation revealed the following:

  • The altercation was physically initiated by a woman who has since filed a lawsuit against the two NBA players.
  • Cousins was at the other side of the nightclub when the altercation began.
  • Barnes was knocked to the ground by multiple assailants.
  • Club security escorted the two NBA players out of the building.

Both players were on the team plane to Dallas and played in Wednesday's game vs the Mavericks. The same sources, who would not go on the record due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, are confident no charges will be filed by the NYPD against Barnes or Cousins.

In another development, Cousins has also retained Alex Spiro, the attorney representing Barnes in the same matter. Spiro also represented Thabo Sefolosha in a separate incident at the adjacent 1 Oak nightclub back in April 2015.

For more on this story listen to The Drive w/Carmichael Dave, Kayte Christensen and Nate Goodyear Thursday morning beginning at 6 a.m. on Sports 1140 KHTK.
