Sheriff: Teen Struck, Killed While Trying To Beat Train Near Manteca

MANTECA (CBS13) – A teenager has died after being hit by a train near Manteca.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department says the teen was riding his bicycle on a bridge over the San Joaquin River, trying to beat the train when he was struck and killed.

The Ace train was heading to Stockton from the Bay Area around 6:30 p.m. Monday when the crash happened.

No one on board the train was hurt.

Tuesday, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the boy as 15-year-old Manteca resident Austin Peterson.

Federal transportation safety officials will investigate.
