Body Of 8-Year-Old Boy Recovered From Sacramento River

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The search for an eight-year-old boy ended Friday night when a body was pulled from the Sacramento River around 8:30 p.m.

Rescue crews began searching for an 8-year-old boy in the water near Cosumnes River Boulevard around 5 o'clock.

A group of people had spent the day trying to cool off on the edge of the water. The boy went in at one point around 5:15 p.m. and hasn't been seen since.

Visibility in the water is poor, leading rescuers to work in a grid trying to locate the boy. Multiple agencies are helping look for the child. A dive team, swift water rescue and helicopter crew all providing resources, but with no success as of now.

The boy was not wearing a life vest at the time.

Rescuers warn the calm water surface can be deceiving and hides the tumult underneath.

Fire Department officials said the depth of the water drops off very quickly from the bank. after going out just a few feet, you can hit double digits in water depth and the currents are swift beneath the surface.

The firefighters say they are not sparing any resources on the search.

This is a developing story. Check back for more details.
