California State Fair
Memorial Day Weekend is the perfect time to get a jump on the summer to do list.
It’s a fair to remember. Nearby fires and record-high temperatures couldn’t keep California State Fairgoers away as the annual event reached attendance not seen in the last six years.
Galt K9 officers Hunter and Jax are receiving new, custom-made, ballistic vests – after Special Olympics athlete – and close friend of the police department – Karissa Krater donated about $2,500 to “Cover Your K9” to help make the lifesaving equipment available.
Since the fair opened 12 days ago, 11 cars have had their catalytic converters stolen. Vehicles sitting higher off the ground have been targeted, as it’s easier for thieves to get underneath and out quickly.
The fire broke out this afternoon and did not damage any structures. But when things seemed to be quieting down in the battle against the 30-acre blaze, flames got into live power lines, causing them to arc.
With temperatures cooler than average, CBS13’s Dave Bender was enjoying the start of the fair.

The fair, which ended Sunday, attracted 697,000 people this year, which is an increase of 4,000 visitors, despite being a day shorter. Daily attendance was up 6.5 percent with an average of 41,000 people per day.
