Best Outdoor Basketball Courts In Sacramento

With basketball season just around the corner, it's a prime time to start brushing up on your game. With scorching summers in Sacramento, outdoor basketball is not always an option unless you are looking to really get out there and sweat. As summer is winding down and temperatures start to drop, get out there and shoot some hoops. If you are looking for the ideal spot to practice your jump shot, here are some of the best outdoor basketball courts in Sacramento.
Roosevelt Park

Sacramento, CA 95814

Roosevelt Park is known for its "street ball" style of pick-up basketball. Located in downtown, near the capital district, this is the place to go if you're looking for some hoops in the middle of the day. Despite the street style, the competition is great, sportsmanship is good and disputes are kept civil. There are two courts here, with a game usually running on the one court while the other is open for shooting around.

McKinley Park
601 Alhambra Blvd.
Sacramento, CA 95816
(916) 452-8011

This Sacramento icon has a great ambiance and decent games, though the court is a little small. McKinley Park is one of the nicest parks in Sacramento, so plenty of other activities are available both before and after your game. Beware of the ducks! They leave droppings all over the park and court, so you might find yourself stepping in some fresh droppings during a game. McKinley was the first public recreation area in Sacramento, developed in 1871, and originally called East Park. It was named after President McKinley after his assassination. One of the coolest things to do after a game is to wander the neighborhood, filled with Tudor and Bungalow-style homes.

Sutter Middle School
3150 I St.
Sacramento, CA 95816

Located nearby to McKinley Park, Sutter Middle School is also a well-known spot for pick-up games, especially on Saturday morning and afternoons. Various skill levels and speed of play can be found here. Sutter Middle School is known as the "Pride of the City" and is the largest comprehensive middle school within the Sacramento Unified School District.

Expect to find some strong competition at Coloma Park. But it's worth it as Coloma Park has a nice court and decent equipment. The court is located behind the Coloma Community Center. There is no shade, so plan accordingly. If you want to make a full day of it, Land Park is home to the Sacramento Zoo, Fairytale Town, William Land Golf Course and Funderland.
