SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Authorities have identified the driver in Tuesday’s wrong-way crash that killed three people.

California Highway Patrol says 42-year-old Sergey Masalov was the man driving the wrong way on Interstate 80 early that morning. Masalov killed two other men – 25-year-old Zahid Arshad and 24-year-old Nicholas Sharma – when his pickup slammed head-on into their car.

Masalov himself was killed in the crash.

Thursday, CHP also released video they’ve obtained from a driver whose dashcam captured the Masalov’s pickup going the wrong way. The video shows the seconds right before the crash.

Tuesday’s crash was the fourth in fatal wrong-way driver crash in the Sacramento region since the beginning of the year.

It is still unclear why Masalov was going the wrong way.
