King Fire: Shift In Weather Pattern Could Send Smoke Drifting Into Valley This Weekend

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The weather system that brought clouds, cooler temperatures, and a few raindrops to northern California on Thursday pushes into the southern portion of the state on Friday.

As a result, winds will shift and blow from the north-northeast Friday through the Sierra, foothills and valley. This means smoke from the King Fire burning in El Dorado and Placer counties may drift south of highway 50 through the motherlode region, and possibly into the valley as well . Temperatures will be on the rise, with highs Friday afternoon pushing into the upper 80s.

On Saturday, winds will shift once again and resume from the southwest. This will once again push the King Fire smoke plume north and east along the I-80 corridor through the foothills and Sierra.

We'll see mostly sunny and warm conditions Saturday and Sunday, with high temperatures near 90 degrees.
