Rain And Snow Showers Hit The Mountains
SODA SPRINGS (CBS13) - The latest on a spring storm rolling through Northern California:
2:30 p.m.
Chain controls are now in effect on Interstate 80 from Donner Lake Road to Nyack in both directions, California Highway Patrol says.
Highway 20 from Bear Valley to the Interstate 80 junction also now has chain controls, Caltrans says.
Crews are also reporting multiple spinouts on I-80 east of Emigrant Gape due to the wet conditions.
The Highway 50 side of the Sierra remains relatively dry at the moment.
1:30 p.m.
Caltrans says they're monitoring the storm to see if and when chain controls in the mountains will need to be posted.
Liza Whitmore with Caltrans says they are not seeing much accumulation of snow.
"We don't have a specific amount to require chains. It's whatever is safe for the roadway," Whitmore said.
The ground is wet and authorities are asking drivers to slow down.

We were just talking about temperatures in the 90s earlier in the week, but a serious cooldown is expected over the weekend.
The National Weather Service says a system from the Gulf of Alaska is responsible for bringing in the cooler air. Showers and thunderstorms could roll through the Sacramento Valley and foothills through the weekend.
A mix of rain and snow is expected in the mountains but NWS says accumulations on the main Sierra passes could be minimal.
Motorists are advised to beware of changing weather and road conditions.
