Unexpected Storm Causes Flooding In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) — An unexpected storm came out of nowhere and left a muddy mess in Fairfield as it dumped inches of rain in just hours.

Elliot Roso wasn't expecting to spend his Friday night shoveling mud and muck that covered his driveway.

"It was just a lot of rocks and stuff coming down from the creek," he said. "It's kind of weird because it's cloudy here and open over there."

Safety crews say they believe a reservoir on the hill overflowed from the heavy rain. The water brought down rocks and mud, shutting down a lane on Rockville Road in Fairfield.

At one point, the road was covered with standing water, creating a dangerous time for drivers trying to get through.

"Both cars hitting the rocks and cars getting stuck in the water," said California Highway Patrol officer Frank Jorgensen.

The rushing water coming only inches from one Fairfield home. The family snapped photos as the water rushed toward them.
