Puddles At The Dog Park: Owners Say Roseville Parks Department Overwatering Grass

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — Puddles at the dog park.

It's not the name of some cute pooch, it's what one CBS13 viewer says is a case of serious water waste in Roseville.

John Monaco emailed asking if Marco Dog Park was being overwatered.

He brings his dog Chet to the park a few times a week, but during his recent visits, he's noticed a problem.

"You walk around with the dog and you wind up stepping in mud and it's starting to smell," he said.

He snapped photos showing puddles of water along the grass ponding at the base of the trees, which leaves a muddy mess for Monaco's furry friend.

"You would sink—clear over your shoes—you would step into the mud and muck, it was that wet," he said.

The Roseville Parks and Recreation Director admits that yes, there was too much water being used. The grass was recently fertilized, and he says crews' estimates of water evaporation were off.

The city says it's working to resolve the problem and will start cutting back on the watering at the dog park.
